Regis Philbin Letter

July 29, 2008

Two of the Little Sisters of the Poor appeared on my TV Show, Live with Regis and Kelly, on Tuesday May 13th, 2008. They are Sister Pauline and Sister Rosemary and they sweetly and eloquently explained their way of life and what they do. They spend their lives taking care of the elderly poor in the Baltimore area. Every morning, Sister Pauline “begs” in the produce markets in that city and at various churches on the weekends after Mass. This happens not only in Baltimore but all over the world. They do a phenomenal job taking care of those who have no one else to turn to.

The Little Sisters recently asked me to be their Honorary Chairman at the 4th Annual Passion for the Elderly Dinner on Tuesday November 18th, 2008 at Martin’s West. I am unable to be there in person that night but nevertheless, I accepted and that’s why I am writing to you.

According to Sister Pauline, electricity and natural gas alone cost St. Martin’s Home more than $37,400 a month this past winter…that’s a lot to beg! Like the rest of us, I’m sure they can look forward to even higher energy costs next year.

I know it’s hard to think about winter fuel bills while we’re enjoying the slower pace and sweltering days of summer…but the chilly weather will be here before you know it. You can help keep the elderly Residents of St. Martin’s Home warm throughout the coming winter months, by supporting the Little Sisters of the Poor’s 4th Annual Passion for the Elderly Dinner in one of the categories listed below.

St. Joseph’s Sponsor: $5,000
Jeanne Jugan Sponsor: $3,000
St. Martin Sponsor: $2,000
Table Sponsor: $1,000

I know charities are everywhere and all of them do a wonderful job but these nuns are very special. I hope we can help them build their Winter Fuel Fund that night in November. Thank you.

My Best,

Regis Philbin, Honorary Chairman
4th Annual Passion for the Elderly Dinner
